The people of Virginia, are preparing to face Democratic legislation that will limit the possession and carrying of weapons permitted under the Second Amendment.

Gun supporters are trying to convince county residents to make them Second Amendment “sanctuaries.”

Also, the Culpeper County sheriff said he would deputize his citizens, following the established procedure, in case the state’s Democratic legislators approve their gun control plan.

“They will be properly vetted through a normal process. Everything from normal background checks that we do for other deputy sheriffs as well as psych [evaluations],” Sheriff Scott Jenkins told Fox News.

“It’s not just a blanket policy of swearing-in anyone who is interested,” the official said.

Culpeper County has declared itself a “Second Amendment Constitutional County,” by a unanimous vote of the board of supervisors.

Similarly, more than 40 local governments passed resolutions to protect the rights of citizens with respect to guns, preventing the controlling legislation of Democrats that they say are unconstitutional.

In turn, Democrats will take control of the General Assembly beginning in January and under the leadership of Gov. Ralph Northam, also a Democrat will push for stricter gun laws.

On the one hand, they will do a universal background check on gun buyers and limit the sale of certain types of firearms.

On the other hand, they will introduce a “red flag” law that would allow forfeiture of weapons for people a court considers to be a danger to themselves or others, according to USA Today.

The president of the Virginia Citizens’ Defense League, a statewide group that supports gun rights, Philip Van Cleave helped counties organize.

“I’ve never seen anything like this,” he told the Washington Post about the movement. “Everything has exploded right now. Gun owners are awake.”
