Democratic Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms on Friday, Nov. 20, shared a video showing no masks or social distancing at self-proclaimed president-elect Joe Biden’s birthday event.

Biden, who turned 78 on Friday, Nov. 20, was surrounded by a group of mask-free people who were singing “Happy Birthday” to him, the video shows.

“Wishing our President-Elect @joebiden a VERY Happy Birthday from the great Blue state of Joe’gia!” Bottoms wrote in tweet attached with the video.

The tweet received numerous criticisms from those who scolded Biden for just proposing a national mask mandate and social distancing for this year’s Thanksgiving.

“No masks, no social distancing, indoors, more than just a small handful of people… he doesn’t look particularly worried about this horrific pandemic killing hundreds of thousands. And yet, we proles will be scolded by our betters if we dare to celebrate Thanksgiving,” a tweet replied.

During a press conference early this week, Biden suggested that American families should not gather more than 10 people and that they should maintain social distancing protocols during Thanksgiving holidays.

“Let me tell you what the health experts have told me. They strongly urge that, if, in fact, we’re going to have Thanksgiving with anyone, that we limit it to maximum, maximum, they suggest five people, maximum 10 people, socially distanced, wearing masks, and people who have quarantined,” Biden told reporters.

With backlash from commenters, the Atlanta mayor then tried to explain in another tweet that it is a pre-pandemic event following the Democratic National Committee debate on Nov. 20, 2019.

“Pre-Covid!  This was in the @TPStudios White House following the @DNC @msnbc debate on 11/20/19,” she tweeted an hour later.

Republican President Donald Trump has lashed out at Democrats who have questioned his handling of the coronavirus threat, calling it their “hoax.”
