White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders issued a statement Tuesday, saying Michael Cohen was “going to prison for lying to Congress and making other false statements.”
“Disgraced felon Michael Cohen is going to prison for lying to Congress and making other false statements. Sadly, he will go before Congress this week and we can expect more of the same. It’s laughable that anyone would take a convicted liar like Cohen at his word, and pathetic to see him given yet another opportunity to spread his lies,” said Sanders said.
Cohen is due to testify on Capitol Hill three times this week, including closed sessions before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday and the House Intelligence Committee on Thursday. His only public testimony will be before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday.
Cohen is scheduled to begin a three-year prison sentence in May after he pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including campaign finance violations and lying to Congress.
Cohen is set to serve time in prison for lying to the House and Senate intelligence committees in 2017.
