President Donald Trump on Sunday, July 14, criticized progressive Democrats, telling the group of lawmakers should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came” before complaining about U.S. policies.

“So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run,” Trump said in tweets.

The president asked, “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”

“Then come back and show us how it is done,” he added. “These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that [Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.)] would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”

President Trump on Friday, July 12 defended top Democrat Pelosi and said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) should treat Pelosi “with respect.”

“I think [Ocasio-Cortez] is being very disrespectful to somebody who’s been there a long time,” Trump told reporters before Marine One’s departure on Friday. “I deal with Nancy Pelosi a lot and we go back and forth and it’s fine, but I think that a group of people is being very disrespectful to her. And you know what, I don’t think that Nancy can let that go on.”

Earlier this week, Pelosi slammed the group that has been dubbed the “squad”—Reps. Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.)—for going public with their criticisms of her. Meanwhile, Ocasio-Cortez called the speaker “disrespectful” and accused her of marginalizing women of color.
