Amid Democrats’ announcement of public impeachment hearings set to begin next week, President Donald Trump slammed the Democrat-brewed process for violating his due process rights.
“It was just explained to me that for next week’s Fake Hearing [trial] in the House, as they interview Never Trumpers and others, I get NO LAWYER & NO DUE PROCESS,” the president fumed in a tweet on Thursday, Nov. 7. “It is a [Nancy] Pelosi, [Adam] Schiff, Scam against the Republican Party and me. This Witch Hunt should not be allowed to proceed!”
The impeachment, initiated by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), is currently being led by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.)
At the heart of the impeachment inquiry is the question of whether or not President Trump had asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter in exchange for military aid in a July 25 call whose transcript has now been released.
But both President Trump and President Zelenskiy denied of any wrongdoing in the call.
President Trump said the phone call is “good” and “normal” while Zelenskiy said there was “no blackmail” in the call and he had no interest in getting involved in American politics.
White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham dismissed allegations of wrongdoing by President Trump in a statement after the Oct. 31 vote for Democrats to formalize the rules to the impeachment inquiry against the president.
“The president has done nothing wrong, and the Democrats know it,” Grisham said. “Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats’ unhinged obsession with this illegitimate impeachment proceeding does not hurt President Trump; it hurts the American people.”
Grisham lambasted Democratic lawmakers for focusing on one-sidedly impeaching the president when the real issues at hand in America are going unattended as the battle to remove President Trump ensues.
“Instead of focusing on pressing issues that impact real families, like reducing gun violence, passing the USMCA, improving health care, lowering prescription drug costs, securing our southern border, and modernizing our aging infrastructure, the Democrats are choosing every day to waste time on a sham impeachment—a blatantly partisan attempt to destroy the president.”
Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), a member of the House GOP leadership, sent a letter to Pelosi earlier this month condemning the cherry-picking tactics used by key Democrats and called for a full exposure of the records.
“The selective leaking in which the House Intelligence Committee has been engaged must end immediately and the full and complete record must be provided for the American people to see,” Cheney wrote in the letter.
Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) also took a jab at Democratic lawmakers for not being straightforward with the American public.
“They’re withholding key facts. They’re lying about other claims and the American public gets completely deceived as a result of it,” Zeldin said last month, pointing out that House Democrats are only leaking information that is beneficial to their case.
