President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign has filed a new lawsuit seeking to deny the election results in Georgia and request a new election in the state, citing “tens of thousands of illegal votes.”
“The Trump Campaign filed an election contest today in Georgia state court seeking to invalidate the state’s November 3, 2020 presidential election results,” the campaign’s lead counsel Ray S. Smith III said in a statement to the press on Friday evening, Dec. 4.
“What was filed today clearly documents that there are literally tens of thousands of illegal votes that were cast, counted, and included in the tabulations the Secretary of State is preparing to certify,” he said.
“The massive irregularities, mistakes, and potential fraud violate the Georgia Election Code, making it impossible to know with certainty the actual outcome of the presidential race in Georgia,” he added.
Claiming that Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger “has orchestrated the worst excuse for an election in Georgia history,” Smith said that his team called on the state’s court to “order a new statewide election for president” or allow Georgia lawmakers to appoint the state’s electors.”
“We are asking the Court to vacate the certification of the presidential election and to order a new statewide election for president. Alternatively, we are asking the Court to enjoin the certification and allow the Georgia legislature to reclaim its duty under the U.S. Constitution to appoint the presidential electors for the state,” the counsel said.
Raffensperger, a Republican, has repeatedly said that the election results in Georgia are valid, and there has been no evidence yet of widespread voter fraud in the state. He insisted on Tuesday that the recounts showed “no substantial changes.”
However, Smith said that the Trump campaign’s complaint is attached with “sworn affidavits from dozens of Georgia residents swearing under penalty of perjury to what they witnessed during the election: failure to process and secure the ballots, failure to verify the signatures on absentee ballots, the appearance of mysterious ‘pristine’ absentee ballots not received in official absentee ballot envelopes that were voted almost solely for Joe Biden, failure to allow poll watchers meaningful access to observe the election, among other violations of law.”
The counsel added that it also includes data experts who provided sworn testimony in the lawsuit identifying thousands of illegal votes.
The Trump campaign on Friday also shared a video footage from Georgia, which shows suitcases filled with ballots pulled from under a table after the supervisors told poll workers to leave room and four people stayed behind to keep counting votes.
