President Donald Trump on Monday morning continued giving his comment about Baltimore, assuming that Bernie Sanders must be labeled a “racist” if he is a Republican.

“Crazy Bernie Sanders recently equated the City of Baltimore to a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY! Based on that statement, I assume that Bernie must now be labeled a Racist, just as a Republican would if he used that term and standard!”

A few years ago, Sanders took aim at Baltimore, a struggling city grappling with high rates of violent crime, drug abuse, poverty, and political corruption.

“Anyone who took the walk that we took around this neighborhood would not think you’re in a wealthy nation,” Sanders said during a visit to the city’s West Baltimore section in December 2015, the Baltimore Sun reported. “You would think that you were in a Third World country,” according to The Sun.

In 2016, Sanders also posted a Twitter message about Baltimore.

“Residents of Baltimore’s poorest boroughs have lifespans shorter than people living under dictatorship in North Korea,” Sanders wrote. “That is a disgrace.”

President Trump went on a Monday tweet asserting he can help to make Baltimore rise again, but not with Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.).

“The fact is, Baltimore can be brought back, maybe even to new heights of success and glory, but not with King Elijah and that crew. When the leaders of Baltimore want to see the City rise again, I am in a very beautiful oval shaped office waiting for your call!” Trump tweeted.

After a weekend of criticism on Cummings, Trump expanded his comments Monday to include a Cummings defender, the Rev. Al Sharpton, who was traveling to Baltimore to hold a press conference in condemnation of the president.

“Al is a con man, a troublemaker, always looking for a score,” Trump tweeted ahead of the press conference, adding that the civil rights activist and MSNBC host “Hates Whites & Cops!”

The Baltimore controversy came after Cummings criticized border patrol officials during a House Oversight Committee hearing. Over the weekend, President Trump said that conditions in Cummings’s Baltimore district were “more dangerous” than those at the border, described it as “rodent infested,” and said that “no human being would want to live there.”
