Democratic candidate Beto O’Rourke was confronted by a mother from Newtown, Connecticut, over his controversial proposal to confiscate certain weapons from citizens.
O’Rourke traveled to the city on Oct. 30 and Rebecca Carnes addressed him in front of media cameras covering the event, expressing her discontent with his proposals.
“They’re here to hijack this town and to try to make an issue out of getting guns out of good peoples’ hands that can make a difference,” Carnes said of the Democrats, adding, “and you know that, Beto.”
She also invited him to discuss the causes of violence, including mental health and urban violence.
However, the former congressman for the state of Texas did not agree to discuss these issues.
“The Democrats have been in charge of urban communities and cities for decades,” said Carnes. “The Democrats have failed. They don’t care about you, sir,” the woman said emphatically.
“Trump 2020, he’s saving this world,” Carnes finally exclaims to the audience.
The topic of gun violence is very sensitive in the area of the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012, in which 28 people died and two more were injured.
Previously, O’Rourke proposed the buy back of assault rifles, and if the owners did not agree to this, the weapons would be seized by security forces, which has been widely criticized by different sectors of the community, according to The Western Journal.
On the other hand, 83 percent of Americans associate mass shootings with mental problems, a survey revealed.
