After President Joe Biden chose Palestinian-American activist Maher Bitar as the senior director of intelligence programs at the National Security Council (NSC), critics were quick to criticize him.

Bitar would play a key role with U.S. intelligence agencies and have access to the most sensitive U.S. intelligence and covert operations, according to The Washington Free Beacon on Jan. 27.

For years he previously headed up the anti-Israel organization promoting the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which the Biden administration vowed to reject.

BDS is banned on some college campuses for spreading anti-Semitic propaganda and harassing pro-Israel Jewish students.

For her part, Biden’s own nominee to be ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said at her Jan. 27 confirmation hearing that BDS is “unacceptable” and “borders on anti-Semitism.”

Also, a Republican lawmaker and several former Trump administration officials are critical of Bitar’s nomination, concerned that his anti-Israel activism will influence the handling of sensitive intelligence information.

Bitar advised Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, and was chief legal counsel to Rep. Adam Schiff, being very active in the first Democratic attempt to impeach President Trump, recalled investigative journalist and writer focusing on the radical left and Islamic terrorism, Daniel Greenfield.

Moreover, for Greenfield, Bitar’s appointment means going back to the Obama era. Israel will no longer be able to share truly sensitive intelligence with the United States, “because the NSC is tainted again.”

“U.S. and Israeli intelligence cooperation has repeatedly saved American lives and advanced U.S. national security. Maher Bitar is a longtime Boycott, Divest, and Sanction activist who has called for the abandonment of Israel,” Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) said in turn, according to The Washington Free Beacon.

According to Greenfield, Obama also spied on congressmen who shared with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu actions against Iran’s nuclear program, and Biden can be expected to spy on them using the NSC as well.

“And any effort by Israel to take out Iran’s nuclear program with its new Arab allies will be closely monitored and sabotaged by the Obama veterans who are back in charge of the NSC,” he added.
