A Republican from Texas chose to passively resist a new presidential order to cover his mouth and nose on federal land.

Sen. Ted Cruz has made a statement about Joe Biden’s executive order to force everyone to wear a face mask and social distance while visiting the Capitol and other buildings on federal land.

A photo went viral on social media showing the senator attending the Democrat’s presidential inauguration ceremony, wearing a light gray mask with an embroidered cannon, star, and the slogan “Come and take it.”

The National Rifle Association (NRA) applauded the political stunt for supporting every American’s Second Amendment right that states a “well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

“Sen. Ted Cruz sends [a] strong message with mask at Biden’s inauguration,” the NRA said on Twitter.

When BL tried to find out where Cruz bought the mask, none seemed to be available for sale at the time of publication. However, similarly branded t-shirts and caps were still for sale, and the association explained the slogan carries a deeply-rooted historical message.

“To those who say, ‘Hell, yes’ to the taking of our guns, we say ‘Hell, yes—come and take them!'” the NRA said on its online store. “Our t-shirt repeats the iconic message of the flag made famous by Texans at the Battle of Gonzales in 1835. Wear it in proud defiance of clueless officials who seem to continually underestimate their constituencies.”

Former President Trump previously supported the NRA and reaffirmed the right for all Americans to defend themselves.

“In 1835, soldiers from Gen. Santa Anna’s army marched into the little Texas town of Gonzales and ordered those Texans to surrender the small cannon that they relied on to protect their lives and protect their homes [but] the Texans refused!” he told the 2018 NRA Convention according to Breitbart.

“They were not about to give up their only means of self-defense … [these] brave Texans raised a flag for all to see,” he added. “On the banner, they painted a cannon along with four words that echoed through the ages [and] it said, ‘Come and take it.'”

The same media outlet previously expressed concerns that if Biden succeeds at removing the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, the nation’s entire firearms sector could financially collapse. It reported the legislation, which former President George W. Bush enacted during 2005, granted federal protections to help prevent gun makers from being targeted by frivolous lawsuits.

The Democratic Party now wants to repeal those protections.

“Biden campaigned on opening up firearm manufacturers to suits tied to the criminal misuse of the products they make,” Breitbart journalist AWR Hawkins said.

Biden previously revealed he regretted giving the firearms industry a “loophole” to prevent them from being sued on behalf of an estimated 40,000 Americans who die each year from gun-related injuries.

“This law protects these manufacturers from being held civilly liable for their products, a protection granted to no other industry,” the Biden 2020 campaign website said. “Biden will prioritize repealing this protection.”

He also intends to make sure “weapons of war” are no longer available to civilians by reviving the Democratic Party’s ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
