Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Tuesday, July 6, that he was “amazed at how badly” President Joe Biden has gone on so many fronts in his first six months in the White House.
“The border is in chaos. Afghanistan is teetering. China is rearing its head,” Graham said of how the Biden administration has handled foreign affairs, Fox News reported.
Regarding the internal affairs, Graham told reporters that, “Inflation is growing because we’re spending so much money that’s not paid for. You see lawlessness in the streets, the cops do not feel supported.”
The Republican senator criticized Biden for pushing forward with the military’s complete withdrawal from Afghanistan by September, saying he would send a letter to President Biden and the Department of Defense to ask for reassessing U.S. involvement in Afghanistan.
According to Fox News, since Biden’s announcement, Taliban forces have driven a surge of violence recently and forced Afghan forces from at least 50 of the nation’s 370 districts.
The United States has withdrawn more than 90% of its troops, but a contingent force is expected to stay in Afghanistan through September to help their forces with operations through airstrikes.
Graham said the Biden administration should maintain their air support for the Afghan government.
“It is not in America’s interest for the Taliban to take over Afghanistan. If the Taliban take over part of Afghanistan, I fear that Al Qaeda and ISIS will re-emerge and we will be paving a way for another 9/11,” Graham said.
The South Carolina lawmaker also criticized Biden for addressing other global issues.
“He’s been a disaster on foreign policy. The border is in chaos, the Iranians are off the map, he’s opening up negotiations with the Iranian regime and they haven’t done a thing to change. Afghanistan’s going to fall apart. Russia and China are already pushing him around, so I’m very worried. He’s been a very destabilizing president,” Graham said.
Graham said he is concerned about the continuing surge of foreigners at the border allowing a “criminal element” to enter the United States, but the Biden administration is still “in denial” about an immigration crisis.
“I don’t see any effort by the Biden administration to adjust their policies on the border,” Graham said. “They seem to be doubling down on policies that are failing.”
“We’ve lost control of the border between Mexico and the United States. The Biden Administration is in denial. They’re refusing to adjust their policies—the worst is yet to come,” Graham made his comments clearer in a tweet.
