While House Democrats push their impeachment inquiry with public hearings on Wednesday, Nov. 13, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy suggested that it’s only their effort to avoid facing President Trump in the 2020 election.

“We’ve never had an impeachment in the first term. They are so afraid of facing the president in the election, they’re trying to frame him,” McCarthy (R-Calif.,) told Fox News on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

“They’ve [House Democrats] already accused him of being guilty and they keep changing the term because they’re trying to find a crime,” he added.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, (D-Calif.,) opened the impeachment hearing into Trump’s alleged pressure on Ukraine to investigate the 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden’s dealings in the country.

In a memo and open letter to colleagues prior to Wednesday’s proceedings, Schiff outlined some of the rules, including that members not assigned to the Intelligence Committee were not permitted to make statements or question witnesses, but were allowed to sit in the audience.

McCarthy noted there has never been “something so partisan” and that the impeachment inquiry is a “pure” setup by Schiff.

“There’s no due process, the president’s attorney is not in the room, cannot cross-examine, we can not have our witnesses, we can’t have the whistleblower who this all started from, an individual who was not even on the phone call,” McCarthy said.

President Trump also gave the same argument on Nov. 12, saying “it is a totally one sided Witch Hunt.”

“Schiff is giving Republicans NO WITNESSES, NO LAWYER & NO DUE PROCESS! It is a totally one sided Witch Hunt. This can’t be making the Democrats look good. Such a farce!” Trump tweeted.

The president emphasized again before the public hearings, “READ THE TRANSCRIPT!”

Earlier, House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Doug Collins (R-Ga.,) also said that Adam Schiff and other Democrats are scared that they will not be able to defeat Trump electorally in 2020 and must therefore find another way to beat him.

Likewise, Oversight Committee Republicans asserted, “Democrats know that if they don’t impeach the President, he will be re-elected.”

Meanwhile, House Republicans said, “Adam Schiff has a track record of lying to the American people. He can’t be trusted to run a fair investigation. This is a sham process.”
