President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Christmas and wished ‘everyone’ a happy holiday, including the ‘Fake News Media.’

“I hope everyone, even the Fake News Media, is having a great Christmas!” he wrote.

President Trump continued and assured that the country is doing “very well”, adding “We are securing our Borders, making great new Trade Deals, and bringing our Troops Back Home. We are finally putting America First. MERRY CHRISTMAS!”.

Earlier on Tuesday, President Donald Trump held an press conference on Christmas morning at the White House.

The U.S. government partially shut down on Saturday, and there is still no sign of any tangible efforts to reopen agencies closed by a political impasse over Trump’s demand for border wall funds.

When asked about the ongoing government shutdown – “I can’t tell you when the government is going to be open. I can tell you it’s not going to be open until we have a wall, a fence, whatever they would like to call it,” he asserted. “The only one that doesn’t want the wall are the Democrats, because they don’t mind open borders. But open borders mean massive amounts of crime.”

Building the wall was one of Trump’s most frequently repeated campaign promises, but Democrats are vehemently opposed to it.

“I think they understand what’s happening,” he said. “They want border security. The people of this country want border security.” “It’s not a question of me,” he continued. “I would rather not be doing shutdowns. I’ve been at the White House. I love the White House, but I wasn’t able to be with my family. I thought it would be wrong for me to be with my family, my family is in Florida, Palm Beach, and I just didn’t want to go down and be there when other people are hurting.”

Trump and his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, released a video earlier in the day.

‘Melania and I are truly thrilled to wish every American a very, merry Christmas,’ President Trump said at the start of the video.

‘During the Christmas season we rejoice in God’s many blessings. We come together to spread hope, love, compassion, cheer and goodwill,’ said Melania.

‘And we remember the events of one holy night more than 2,000 years ago.’
