President Donald Trump on Tuesday, April 9, warned about illegal immigration as authorities struggle to cope with the influx of migrants pouring across the southern border.
He tweeted on April 9: “Everybody is now acknowledging that, right from the time I announced my run for President, I was 100% correct on the Border. Remember the heat I took? Democrats should now get rid of the loopholes. The Border is being fixed. Mexico will not let people through!”
In a subsequent tweet, he added: “The Democrats must end the loopholes on immigration. So easy to solve!”
Before April 7 he wrote: “….Mexico must apprehend all illegals and not let them make the long march up to the United States, or we will have no other choice than to Close the Border and/or institute Tariffs. Our Country is FULL!”
President Donald Trump on Saturday, April 6, asked congressional Democrats to join with Republican lawmakers and legislate fixes to “the horrible, costly, and foolish loopholes” in U.S. immigration statutes.
The U.S. Border Patrol said it has set a new monthly record for apprehensions of families at the southern border, driven primarily by a surge of parents and children leaving Central America.
The agency said Tuesday that it apprehended 92,607 people at the U.S.-Mexico border in March.
Just over 53,000 of the people apprehended were parents and children traveling together, which the Border Patrol refers to as “family units.” That breaks a record set in February, when the agency apprehended 36,000 parents and children. Another 8,975 were children traveling alone.
The large number of families has forced many line agents into humanitarian roles and has strained detention facilities built when the Border Patrol primarily apprehended single adult men.
