The president successfully convinced Russia to deliver several tons of emergency medical supplies to help the United States contain the deadly Asian disease.

President Donald Trump has secured a Russian cargo plane filled with lifesaving health care items to help treat people suffering from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Virus.

The move came after the president phoned Russian President Vladimir Putin, and expressed concern about America’s ability to meet demand for ventilators and personal protective equipment. Putin offered to help the United States by sending the urgently needed supplies.

“Following [a] phone talk between Presidents [Vladimir] Putin and Donald Trump, Russia sends [its] largest cargo aircraft An-124 Ruslan with medical supplies (masks and equipment) to the United States to help fight [the] COVID-19 pandemic [and] save lives of American citizens,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia said on Twitter.

Moscow’s delivery to New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport contained 60 tons of ventilators, masks, respirators, and more. The Russian government hopes the United States will return the favor when the Eastern European nation later needs emergency supplies.

“Being aware of the serious epidemiological situation in America, the Russian side offered medical equipment and protective gear as assistance,” Russian press secretary Dmitry Peskov said in a statement. “When offering assistance to the American colleagues, President Putin is guided by the following consideration: when U.S. manufacturers of medical equipment gain momentum they will be able to reciprocate if need be.”

Stanford University lecturer Brett McGurk believes the emergency delivery suggests the United States is no longer leading the global response to the CCP Virus pandemic.

“Nothing to see here,” he said on Twitter. “Just a Russian military aircraft landing at JFK with 60 tons of medical supplies to support America’s COVID-19 response. A propaganda bonanza as our own government shrinks from America’s leadership role in a global crisis.”

However, the Russia government believes political divisions are delaying U.S. Congress from taking further action against the CCP Virus. Peskov urged the Democratic Party and Republican Party to put aside party politics and focus on containing the pandemic instead.

“There was an impression that some on the American side were at least not eager to promote swift resolution of technical issues,” he said. “When the current situation affects each and every one and can be characterized as global, there is no alternative to working together in the spirit of partnership and mutual help.”
