A new executive order issued by President Biden on Sunday, March 7, on “access voting,” has been cast by Republicans as federal interference to stifle states’ authority to control their own elections.
Democrats are claiming the bill will help stifle voter suppression attempts.
The Executive Order on Promoting Access to Voting reads like a Democratic Party wish-list of “reforms” reported Breitbart, and many of the practices employed during the pandemic for voting in the 2020 election have been preserved.
One provision states, “It is the responsibility of the Federal Government to expand access to, and education about, voter registration and election information, and to combat misinformation, in order to enable all eligible Americans to participate in our democracy.”
Leading up to and during the 2020 election, mainstream media news outlets and social media giants suppressed legitimate and accurate information on the foreign business deals Biden’s son Hunter was involved in, under the pretense of fighting “misinformation.”
Some of the measures included in the executive order are; to use federal agencies to promote voter registration and inform Americans about voting, and linking federal agency websites to state voter registration websites.
The order will allow for “approved, nonpartisan third-party organizations” to register voters at federal agencies; ID documents issued by the agency will help people register to vote; “time off to vote in Federal, State, local, Tribal, and territorial elections” will be given to public employees, and voting will be promoted for federal prisoners.
The list of measures in the executive order runs side-by-side to those included in Democrats’ legislation, H.R. 1, the For the People Act, which intends to override state measures that bolster ballot integrity. H.R. 1 recently passed the Democrat-run House.
Biden called H.R. 1 “a landmark piece of legislation that is urgently needed to protect the right to vote, the integrity of our elections, and to repair and strengthen our democracy.”
Breitbart reported that the list also appears aimed at providing opportunities for the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division to pursue legal action against states that have photo identification requirements for voting, or that remove ineligible voters from the rolls.
