Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday, Aug. 19, criticized Democrats for failing to talk about the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) that he deems “the single-greatest challenge to the United States over the next years,” during the Democratic National Convention.

“I’ve been terribly surprised that the Democrats haven’t talked about foreign policy enough with no mentions of China,” Pompeo told Fox News anchor Bret Baier, reported the Daily Wire.

“The single greatest threat to the United States comes from the Chinese Communist Party. Donald Trump called it early; he talked about it during his campaign in 2015 and again in 2016. And now for three and a half years we have imposed cost on China in a way that has protected the American people from this threat,” he continued.

President Donald Trump’s handling of the CCP Virus (coronavirus) pandemic which originated in Wuhan, China, has been a central focus for Democrats during three days of convention.

Former President Barack Obama tore into President Trump for his response to the disease, claiming, “The consequences of that failure are severe. 170,000 Americans dead. Millions of jobs gone while those at the top take in more than ever.”

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who praised the Trump administration’s response to the pandemic in April, even called CCP Virus the “European virus” during his President Trump-bashing speech at the DNC—an apparent attempt to downplay President Trump’s early efforts to stop the spread of the virus when he issued a China travel ban in January.

“Our collective strength is exercised through government. It is, in effect, our immune system. And our current federal government is dysfunctional and incompetent. It couldn’t fight off the virus. In fact, it didn’t even see it coming. The European virus infected the northeast while the White House was still fixated on China,” said Cuomo, who has drawn sharp criticism over thousands of deaths in New York’s nursing homes.

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro on Wednesday echoed Pompeo’s comments, criticizing Democrats for a failure to acknowledge CCP’s responsibility with respect to the virus.

“What I think is happening here is that the Democrat Party and the Chinese Communist Party have entered into a common cause to defeat Donald J. Trump and their whole strategy, their whole strategy is based on blaming this administration for a global pandemic created by the Chinese Communist Party,” Navarro said.

“They don’t talk about policy anymore,” he added. “It’s just Donald Trump—’bad.’ That’s their whole, whole strategy.”

Pompeo and Navarro’s comments come after the U.S. intelligence community concluded earlier this month that the CCP wants Biden to win the 2020 election while Russia does not.
