Members of the Pennsylvania, USA, Boilermakers’ Local 154 complained to their leaders that the remarks Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden made claiming he had their support was quickly disproved by Shawn Steffee, a senior union official.

“We had a moment of disbelief when our members started blowing up our phone, because they said we were wrong in our support,” Steffee said, according to The Washington Free Beacon, Oct. 17.

Steffee was referring to the stir caused in the union by Biden’s claims on a television show about union support, which turned out to be false. “I don’t know where he gets that,” he reiterated.

Biden claimed to have argued with union leaders about having their support, which according to Steffee is also a fabricated version, because it never happened.

Local 154 supported the re-election of President Donald Trump in September because, in pursuit of the country’s energy independence, it also supports oil extraction through the fracking system.

“But I know that President Donald Trump has embraced our energy independence and wants to grow the energy infrastructure and the Boilermakers absolutely want to be a part of it,” Steffee explained.

Fracking is also important in the states of Michigan and Ohio with over 400,000 workers in the shale industry, while Pennsylvania has about 320,000 workers.

President Trump has leaned toward his continued support for the fracking and natural gas industry during the campaign, while Biden and vice presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) oppose it.

John J. Hughes, business manager of Boilermakers Local 154, located in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, addressed a letter of official support to President Trump for his re-election.

“As the United States continues to lead the world in oil and natural gas production, it is imperative that we continue to fight against overregulation in the fossil fuel industries and fight for American energy production,” Hughes said in part of his letter, according to local media The Village reporter.

“It is a great honor for me to write this letter to support the campaign for re-election of the president of the United States. I am happy to support his administration as he has proven to be a true friend of the Caldereros, and I wish him the best of luck in his campaign,” Hughes concluded.
