House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) gave a press conference Thursday, Dec. 5, after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced the continuation of impeachment against President Trump.

McCarthy said Pelosi “has weakened this nation” with her announcement, but it wasn’t “new news,” as Democrats have been conspiring to remove President Donald Trump from office since the beginning of his presidency.

He also said the Democrats have prioritized the president’s impeachment over other relevant issues, such as approving a federal budget, lowering drug prices, and signing an important trade agreement.

During a press conference on Capitol Hill, McCarthy reviewed some of the occasions when Democrats made public their intentions to impeach President Trump from the beginning of his term.

“After winning the majority, they had to decide who would become the chairs of their committees. Impeachment committee judiciary had a campaign for it. Nadler campaigned on the theme that he would be the best for impeachment, and he won the position,” McCarthy said.

He also referred to Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Minn.) who on the day of her swearing in she raised her hand and said they will impeach him [the president].

He also referred to Al Green, who in May of this year said that if the president was not impeached, he would be re-elected.

“They just never had a case or proof so they had to bring professors in,” he said, referring to the three law school professors who testified for the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee at Wednesday’s impeachment investigation hearing.

McCarthy said Pelosi is not adhering to the standards he set for moving toward the indictment.

“Even in this year of March, the speaker of the House said impeachment was so destructive to the nation that it had to be overwhelming, compelling, and bipartisan. That was the criteria she laid out for the nation and for her conference. It’s just not the criteria she held herself to”, apuntó.

The White House issued a statement addressed to Pelosi, warning that by showing her support for the impeachment of the U.S. president she was “ignoring the needs of the American people and advancing her selfish political desires.”

According to analysts, the impeachment of President Trump represents a desperate attempt by the Democrats to win the 2020 election, as they have very little chance.

There are many irregularities in the proceedings, and witnesses did not provide answers or demonstrate inappropriate behaviour by President Trump and instead left room for many questions.
