House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) released a statement after the Supreme Court stayed a ruling in favor of President Trump’s effort to spend military funds to build a wall on the southern border.

She accused Trump of trying to “undermine our military readiness and steal from our men and women in uniform to waste billions on a wasteful, ineffective wall that Congress on a bipartisan basis has repeatedly refused to fund.”

She said the Supreme Court’s decision “undermines the Constitution and the law.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) called the decision “deeply regrettable and nonsensical.”

He tweeted, “It’s a sad day when the president is cheering a decision that may allow him to steal funds from our military to pay for an ineffective and expensive wall for which he promised Mexico would foot the bill.”

Meanwhile, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) praised the Supreme Court ruling, calling it “a big day” and a “great week” for President Trump.

Big day as this Supreme Court decision will allow emergency funds to be spent on the much-needed Wall. After this decision the Border Wall will get stronger and better. A great week for President Trump!” Graham tweeted.

The Supreme Court on July 26, ruled that the Trump administration could begin using military funds to build a wall on the southern border, providing a significant legal win to the president.

The decision allows the administration to move ahead with plans to use certain military funds to replace existing border fencing in California, Arizona, and New Mexico.

President Trump called it a “Big WIN for Border Security and the Rule of Law!”

The case before the Supreme Court involved just the $2.5 billion in Defense Department funds, which the administration said will be used to construct more than 100 miles of fencing. One project would replace 46 miles of barrier in New Mexico for $789 million. Another would replace 63 miles in Arizona for $646 million. The other two projects in California and Arizona are smaller.

Rudy Giuliani, an attorney to the president, also hailed it a “great week” for Donald Trump.
