A Muslim scholar discovered evidence that might suggest that Democratic representative Ilham Omar married her brother to obtain citizenship.
Australian Imam Mohammad Tawhidi, who describes himself as a “reformist Iman” who “comes from prominent Islamic lineage,” “an advocate of peace” and “a national bestselling author,” argues that Rep. Ilhan Omar is using a false name. He states this based on a tweet—now deleted—in which the Democrat congratulated her father on Father’s Day 2013.
Omar wrote: “Happy Father’s Day to my aabo Nur Said, I am forever grateful to Allah for giving me the best father…”
In this regard, the Imam explained that in countries of Islamic belief the name of the father is used as the surname, but that the Senegalese refugee called him Nur – as her husband – instead of Nur Omar Mohamed as recorded in the records.
He said, “Your father is Nur Said?
Not: Nur Omar Mohamed?
So you’re Ilhan Nur Said?
And you married Ahmed Nur Said,
You married your brother,” Tawhidi pointed out.
“(Most Americans don’t know that in most Muslim countries, the surname is actually the father’s name),” he said.
“This means her real name is Ilhan Nur Said. Some examples for Non-Muslims/Those not from Middle East & North Africa: 1. ‘Mohammad Salman’ means: Mohammad the son of Salman. 2. ‘Mohammad Zayed’ means Mohammad the son of Zayed. • Ilhan’s dad is Nur Said. She’s: ‘Ilhan Nur Said,'” he concluded.
Omar’s Father’s Day message was deleted shortly after Tawhidi revealed it, according to Daily Caller, fueling speculation about her controversial marital status and immigration status.
But One America News journalist Jack Posobiec had filed it and posted it on his account.
In June, the Minnesota Star-Tribune published that Ahmed Nur Said Elmi was “possibly her own brother,” pointing out that it was impossible “to get the original Instagram and Facebook publications” shared by the media “Power Line and Alpha News,” because they had been deleted.
The Democrat said she first married Ahmed Hirsi in 2002 in a religious but not a legal ceremony. As a result of this relationship, she had two children and then decided to marry Ahmed Nur Said Elmi legally in 2009.

While legally married to Elmi, she had a third child with her first husband, as she herself stated, with whom she also filed joint taxes in 2014 and 2015, specified the Minnesota Star-Tribune.
Addresses on a series of government public access documents discovered by the Washington Examiner, including dozens of traffic violations, could indicate that the Democrat was living with Hirsi the entire time.
Omar’s campaign spokesman Ben Goldfarb summarized Omar’s marital arrangements when she ran for Congress in 2016, taking one of her quotes: “I am not legally married to two people, but I am legally married to one and culturally married to another.”
Minnesota’s far-left legislator also issued a statement that same year calling the accusations of bigamy made by some conservative journalists “absurd and unfounded rumors” by accusing them, in turn, of being “Islamophobic.”
In 2017, she filed for divorce from Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, declaring under oath that she had not seen him since 2011, and that she did not know the names of any of her husband’s relatives, or anyone who could locate him.
It should be noted that visa applications for spouses of U.S. residents have a very short waiting time, compared to the more than 10 years it can take for siblings.
