Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) blasted his Democratic colleagues on Wednesday for sending a stunning and unusual warning to the Supreme Court earlier this week in terms of a gun law.

Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Richard Durbin (D-Ill.), and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) issued a brief filed Monday, Aug. 12, which blasted the Supreme Court as partisan toward conservative causes related to “voting rights, partisan gerrymandering, dark money, union power” and civil rights issues.

“The Supreme Court is not well. And the people know it,” the brief said. “Perhaps the Court can heal itself before the public demands it be ‘restructured in order to reduce the influence of politics.’”

But Graham made clear that Democratic senators are demanding the court expand and appoint more judges to make it more liberal.

“When you hear Democrats talking about expanding the Supreme Court……..they are talking about making the Court more liberal,” Graham tweeted on Wednesday.

“This has been a Dream of the Left for decades. I will do everything in my power to ensure that dream is NEVER fulfilled!” he stressed. 

The brief was filed in the case of New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. City of New York, which dealt with legal limitations on where gun owners could transport their licensed, locked, and unloaded firearms, Fox News reported.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) slammed the senators’ brief.

“This brief is nothing more than a desperate attempt by anti-gun politicians hoping to prop up New York City’s blatantly unconstitutional prohibition on the transport of legally owned firearms outside the home,” NRA spokesman Lars Dalseide said in a statement to Fox News.

In response to the claim that the court is “not well,” Graham tweeted on Tuesday that, “The Supreme Court is well. The American political system is the sick patient.”

“The Court is moving center-right and getting out of the left ditch. That’s exactly where the country is headed!” he emphasized.
