In an era where mainstream media has become increasingly left-leaning and anti-conservative, Donald Trump Jr. took a jab at popular media outlets and explained on Fox News’s “Hannity” why he believes that the media is “destroying its credibility.”
Trump Jr. during a Wednesday appearance on the show told host Sean Hannity that The Washington Post painted now-dead ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as an “austere religious scholar” before the headline was changed.
“You saw this weekend when al-Baghdadi, the number one target on my father’s hit list, the number one person in ISIS, the worst human being on the face of this earth is a mere austere religious scholar, not a terrorist, not a rapist, not someone that throws homosexuals off of buildings. He’s an austere religious scholar,” Trump Jr. said.
“But Nick Sandmann, one of the innocent 15-year-old kids from Covington Catholic is a homegrown terrorist. The media is destroying their credibility,” he said, citing the boy who was wrongfully portrayed by The Washington Post as having assaulted or physically intimidated Nathan Phillips and engaged in racist conduct following the Jan. 18 Right to Life March in Washington D.C.
Sandmann has filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit against The Washington Post in February, and his lawyers argued that the Post had wrongfully characterized the teenage boy as the aggressor in the situation and exposed him to public ridicule, according to USA Today.
“They’re taking what little faith people had left in those institutions and totally flushing it down the toilet,” Trump Jr. lamented.
Trump Jr. then blasted House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) for making up parts of the transcript of the July 25 call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on live television among other supposed leaks that Schiff has made in attempts to smear President Trump.
“And he is able to alter emails. He’s able to leak this. He’s able to change the narrative. Now, you have guys like Lee Zeldin that are out there saying, hey, I’m in the room. This is ridiculous. When are you going to let us speak, when are you going to let us ask a question?” The president’s son said, “You know I remember The Washington Post making a big deal about democracy dying in darkness. Yet they have no problem with this going on for three years and certainly not for the last 40 days of this sham in a dark room in a basement of Congress, impeachment investigation where no one’s even asking the question about what’s going on.”
Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) told Hannity last month that Schiff had in fact been “coaching” a witness during closed-door depositions, where he “continually interrupted Republican lawmakers as they attempted to question Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman.
Nunes pointed out that Schiff is “very good at coaching witnesses,” and “interrupt [Republicans] continually to coach the witness, to decide … what [Republicans] are going to be able to ask the witness.”
“It’s a true disgrace Sean,” Trump Jr. told the host of “Hannity.” “But the good thing is, it’s gone so far that the American people get it. It’s gone so far that those people, even the people in the middle, even the people on the reasonable left, what’s left of them, because this is no longer your grandfather’s Democrat Party anymore. These are extremists.”
The president’s son highlighted that moderates—those who are non-extremists are aware that President Trump deserves credit for what he has done for the American people, while slamming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for not giving the president the credit he deserves.
“But the reasonable people in the middle, they get it. They want to see this President be able to do his job. They want to see Congress enact actual legislation to benefit the American people. USMCA been sitting on a desk for nine months,” Trump Jr. continued. “Nancy Pelosi doesn’t want to do that because she doesn’t want to give Trump even a little bit of credit for getting things done. And this President is getting things done for the American people in an unprecedented fashion with unprecedented incoming from the other side.”
