Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) on Friday, Oct. 2, took Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden to task after he announced that his campaign would pull negative campaign ads against President Donald Trump as the president battles the CCP Virus (coronavirus).
“Why would Biden delay or suspend his campaign when we know Trump would’ve had ads up by noon today ridiculing Biden for testing positive? Get it together,” Omar tweeted.
President Trump confirmed that he and First Lady Melania Trump had tested positive for the virus early on Friday, Oct. 2. Later the president was taken to Walter Reed Medical Center for virus treatment.
Biden’s campaign pledged on Friday not to air negative ads. However, Biden’s ads criticizing President Trump were still running on Saturday as the president fought the virus at the military hospital, reported Fox News.
“Despite pledging to stop his negative advertising, nearly 100 negative Biden ads slandering the president and lying about his record have aired today while the president is at Walter Reed,” Andrew Clark, Trump 2020 Campaign rapid response director, told the outlet. “Meanwhile, Joe Biden has continued to attack the president in his speeches.”
The Biden campaign argued that it might take one day or so for the ads to be fully removed from the rotation.
“The Biden campaign tried to trick reporters into thinking they’re the ‘good guys’ and score some good headlines and tweets while doing nothing to tone down their viciousness,” Clark said. “They lied to the media and got caught.”
In a statement responding to the president’s diagnosis, Omar said she wouldn’t wish the virus on anyone but then proceeded to blame the president and Republicans in Minnesota for “actively spreading a deadly virus.”
“Over 200,000 people have now died while this administration actively ignores public health guidance and suppresses science. For months, we have been hoping for a simple acknowledgment from the president—to hear the words, ‘We will get through this together.’ And now we only hear those words when it is about him—not the hundreds of thousands of people who have lost their lives, and the millions whose families have been touched by it because of his malfeasance,” Omar wrote.
Omar has come under scrutiny after it emerged that her supporters allegedly engaged in illegal ballot harvesting before the election. The allegation prompted an investigation by the Minneapolis Police Department.
“This is totally illegal,” President Trump tweeted, linking to an article on the issue. “Hope that the U.S. Attorney in Minnesota has this, and other of her many misdeeds, under serious review??? If not, why not??? We will win Minnesota because of her, and law enforcement. Saved Minneapolis & Iron O Range!”
