The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on Thursday, June 13, subpoenaed President Trump’s national security adviser Michael Flynn and former Trump Deputy Campaign Manager Rick Gates for documents and testimony.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the chairman of the panel, claims that the pair was uncooperative in Congress’s “oversight” investigation into the conduct specified in the 2016 presidential election report of special counsel Robert Mueller on the now-debunked collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Chairman Adam Schiff stated: “As part of our oversight work, the House Intelligence Committee is continuing to examine the deep counterintelligence concerns raised in special counsel Mueller’s report, and that requires speaking directly with the fact witnesses. Both Michael Flynn and Rick Gates were critical witnesses for special counsel Mueller’s investigation, but so far have refused to cooperate fully with Congress.

“That’s simply unacceptable. The American people, and Congress, deserve to hear directly from these two critical witnesses. We hope these witnesses come to recognize their cooperation as being with the United States, not merely the Department of Justice.”

The subpoena says that Flynn and Gates will hand over documents to the commission by June 26 and wait for an interview under oath on July 10.

A day earlier, Schiff threatened to subpoena FBI Director Christopher Wray for information related to the bureau’s counterintelligence investigation, according to AP.

Schiff said on Wednesday that he has unsuccessfully sought more information about that investigation and any links to Donald Trump’s winning campaign, including whether that probe is still active. The investigation was first disclosed by then-FBI Director James Comey at a committee hearing in March 2017, and Schiff said he has received few answers about it since Comey was fired by Trump two months later.

Meanwhile, President Trump tweeted on June 13, “The Dems fight us at every turn – in the meantime they are accomplishing nothing for the people! They have gone absolutely “Loco,” or Unhinged, as they like to say!”
