A failed Democratic presidential candidate directed Americans not to support a Republican from Texas who allegedly left his dog at home unattended.

Hillary Clinton strongly criticized Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) after unverified news reports claimed he left his poodle, Snowflake, behind throughout his family’s latest winter escape.

Clinton urged everyone to stop voting for the senator because he cannot be trusted with pets.

“Do not vote for anyone you would not trust with your dog,” she said on Twitter.

The remarks came after Houston-based New York Times contributor Michael Hardy took a photo outside of the Cruz residence, showing Snowflake peering through the glass door pane.

“Just drove by Ted Cruz’s house in Houston [and found] his lights are off,” he said on Twitter. “A neighbor told me the block got its power back last night. Also, Ted appears to have left behind the family poodle.”

Without verifying whether anybody was at home, Hardy suggested the animal was left to die from the freezing temperatures.

“It is possible Ted brought the poodle back from Cancun with him, or that a family member was staying behind to take care of the dog,” he said. “The poodle’s name appears to be Snowflake, which is probably how it felt being left behind without heat in subzero weather.”

In the end, the reporter was forced to share a follow-up Twitter post to confirm a security worker is caring for Snowflake and the animal was not alone.

“Ted left a security guard to take care of Snowflake,” he said. “Seems to be a lot of confusion here but them’s the facts.”

Cruz was surprised by the incorrect news report and described Hardy’s journalistic practise of waiting outside his home and taking photos of the family dog as “really creepy,” according to The Hill newspaper.

Cruz also expressed deep disappointment after discovering private text messages were leaked between his wife Heidi, neighbors, and who he considered to be friends of the family.

He also revealed his spouse felt quite upset during her stay in Cancun, Mexico, because paparazzi photographers followed her and her children Caroline and Catherine to the beach and took photos of the mother wearing a “bikini.”

Cruz just used the opportunity to show his enduring love for his wife. He declared to the whole world that in all of the photos the press published she looked “smoking hot,” and Heidi Cruz still “look[s] great.”
