President Donald Trump on Thursday, April 2, slammed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for creating a new House select committee to investigate the federal response to the CCP Virus (coronavirus) pandemic.

“We have seen Americans unite with incredible selflessness and compassion,” President Trump said at the White House press briefing. “This is not the time for politics. Endless, partisan investigations, here we go again. They’ve already done extraordinary damage to our country in recent years.”

Pelosi said the committee will include Democrats and Republicans. The group will oversee the federal government’s handling of the $2 trillion relief package passed last week and its ongoing response to the crisis.

“We face a deadly virus and a battered economy with millions of Americans suddenly out of work. Congress has taken an important step in leading this crisis by passing three bills with over $2 trillion in emergency relief. We need to ensure those dollars are spent carefully and effectively,” Pelosi said, according to MSNBC.

“It’s witch hunt after witch hunt after witch hunt,” the president continued. “And in the end it’s people doing the witch hunt who are losing.”

Pelosi told reporters that House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) will be chairman of the committee. Her announcement was in apparent response to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff ‘s(D-Calif.) proposal.

“It’s time to get this enemy defeated,” President Trump spoke of the virus. “Conducting these partisan investigations during a pandemic is a really big waste of vital resources, time, attention. And we want to fight for American lives, not waste time and build up my poll numbers, because that’s all they’re doing, because everyone knows it’s ridiculous.”
