Congress failed to pass a stimulus package because the Democrats only listen to words they find pleasing, a Republican from California said.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) blamed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for preventing Congress from amending the next CCP (Chinese Communist Party) Virus stimulus package before Christmas.
“House Democrats appear to be suffering from selective hearing,” he said in a statement shared on Twitter.
McCarthy revealed the House speaker only seemed to pay attention to President Donald Trump’s request for individual stimulus checks to be increased from $600 to $2,000.
However, she appeared to ignore the president’s condition that taxpayer money normally allocated for overseas financial aid should be redirected to struggling Americans affected by government restrictions to contain the deadly disease.
“They have conveniently ignored the concerns expressed by the president, and shared by our constituents that we ought to reexamine how our tax dollars are spent overseas while so many of our neighbors at home are struggling to make ends meet,” McCarthy said. “Thus, Republicans will offer a unanimous consent request to revisit the State and Foreign Operations title of the Omnibus so that we can fully address the concerns at hand.”
McCarthy also stated the outcome of any future CCP Virus stimulus package will depend on Pelosi.
“It will be up to Speaker Pelosi to decide if she wants to act on behalf of the American people,” he said. “Our government’s top priority must be our families, communities, and small businesses as we get through this pandemic and restore our country.”
However, the Pelosi decided to accuse the GOP of “cruelly” forcing families and individuals to keep struggling while they wait for Congress to approve the next stimulus package.
“House and Senate Democrats have repeatedly fought for bigger checks for the American people, which House and Senate Republicans have repeatedly rejected,” she said in a statement. “First, during our negotiations when they said that they would not go above $600 and now, with this act of callousness on the floor.”
She warned House Republicans that more people would suffer unless her demands are met.
“To vote against this bill is to deny the financial hardship that families face and to deny them the relief they need,” she said.
However, she appeared to forget that she and her fellow party members repeatedly blocked previous stimulus packages in the past six months.
“Americans have needed relief from the coronavirus [CCP Virus] and lockdowns for months,” McCarthy said. “House Republicans have attempted to pass relief over 40 times but each time Speaker Pelosi has ignored our fellow citizens, saying ‘Nothing is better than something.'”
McCarthy believes Pelosi is more interested in sending taxpayer money to foreign countries than helping her fellow Americans.
“Worse than that by waiting days before Christmas, Speaker Pelosi tried to use the American people as leverage to make coronavirus [CCP Virus] relief contingent on government funding–which includes billions of foreign aid at a time when there are urgent needs at home,” he said.
