Former Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer praised the proposal made by President Donald Trump to place illegal aliens in sanctuary towns, saying it was “great plan.”

“When I was Governor, illegal aliens cost AZ taxpayers $1.6 billion/yr in education, health care, and incarceration costs. So, why do we continue to bear these costs when sanctuary cities encourage illegal immigration? Great plan by realDonaldTrump to utilize those cities!” Brewer tweeted on April 15.

Her comments were made in response to the president’s proposal that he tweeted on April 12 to exclusively relocate immigrants who cross the southern border illegally to sanctuary cities.

“Due to the fact that Democrats are unwilling to change our very dangerous immigration laws, we are indeed, as reported, giving strong considerations to placing Illegal Immigrants in Sanctuary Cities only,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

“The Radical Left always seems to have an Open Borders, Open Arms policy—so this should make them very happy!”

Trump confirmed his plans at a press conference on April 1 when asked to clarify his plan.

“We’ll bring them to sanctuary city areas and let that particular area take care of it, whether it’s a state or whatever it might be,” Trump said.

“California certainly is always saying, ‘Oh, we want more people.’ And they want more people in their sanctuary cities. Well, we’ll give them more people. We can give them a lot. We can give them an unlimited supply, and let’s see if they’re so happy. They say we have open arms. They’re always saying they have open arms. Let’s see if they have open arms,” he added.

Sanctuary towns are locations that have taken action to prevent local officials from cooperating with federal immigration authorities. Around the United States there are eight states and hundreds of cities that are officially sanctuaries for illegal aliens. California, Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, and Vermont are among the eight states.

In response to Trump’s proposed measure to deal with the influx of illegal aliens crossing the U.S .- Mexico border, the office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D – Calif.) called the idea “despicable.”

“The extent of this administration’s cynicism and cruelty cannot be overstated,” said Pelosi spokeswoman Ashley Etienne. “Using human beings — including little children — as pawns in their warped game to perpetuate fear and demonize immigrants is despicable, and in some cases, criminal.”
