The White House press office warned House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) that by offering her support to President Donal J. Trump’s impeachment, she is “ignoring the needs of the American people and advancing her selfish political desires.”
“Democrats in Congress have clearly abused their power. Democrats in Congress have lied to the American people. Democrats in Congress have made a mockery of the law,” the statement said.
Along those lines, the press office warned that Pelosi’s order to move forward with President Trump’s “false” impeachment process, “one that has violated every precedent—moves this Country toward the most partisan and illegitimate subversion of the Constitution in our history.”
“Democrats’ sham impeachment is a blatant, purely partisan attempt to overturn the results of a free and fair election” because they cannot defeat him at the polls, the statement noted.
Hours earlier, Pelosi had asked House committee chairs to draft the articles of President Trump’s impeachment indictment to me on to the fourth phase of the process, The Hill reported.
It should be remembered that House Democrats accused President Trump of pressuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, to initiate an investigation of his political rival former vice president Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden, involved in a case of corruption in Ukraine. Both presidents denied that there had been such pressure.
Pelosi’s speech came shortly after President Trump urged Democrats on his Twitter account to speed up impeachment. “The Do Nothing Democrats had a historically bad day yesterday in the House. They have no Impeachment case and are demeaning our Country,” the president wrote.
‘They have gone crazy’
“But nothing matters to them, they have gone crazy. Therefore I say, if you are going to impeach me, do it now, fast, so we can have a fair trial in the Senate, and so that our Country can get back to business. We will have Schiff, the Bidens, Pelosi, and many more testify, and will reveal, for the first time, how corrupt our system really is,” he said.
Republicans have asked several Democrats, including Pelosi and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), to testify after accusing them of conducting a biased investigation in an impeachment process full of irregularities, the Washington Post said.
Following Pelosi’s announcement, President Trump replied by assuring that Democrats would continue to focus on trying to “impeach him for nothing,” after they had been forced to give up the “ridiculous” accusations of special counsel Robert Mueller.
A possible threat to ‘future presidents’
The president also noted that Pelosi’s decision will have repercussions in the future: “This will mean that the beyond important and seldom used act of impeachment will be used routinely to attack future presidents. That is not what our Founders had in mind. The good thing is that the Republicans have NEVER been more united. We will win!” President Trump said.
White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham asked, “How many Democrats will join her [Pelosi] driving right off the cliff with this illegitimate impeachment hoax?”
Instead of continuing the “false accusation,” Pelosi “could have finally announced a vote on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement that would immediately helped America’s farmers, ranchers, businesses, and workers; or outlined a plan to work with the president to lower prescription drug prices; or addressed our nation’s infrastructure,” Grisham concluded.
