CNN anchor Don Lemon on Wednesday, Aug. 26, said that Democrats ignoring ongoing riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin could impact the November election and urged Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden to call for an end to rioting.
“This is a blindspot for Democrats. I think Democrats are ignoring this problem or hoping it will go away. And it’s not going to go away,” Lemon told his fellow anchor Chris Cuomo.
“The problem is not going to be fixed by then, but what they can do, and I think maybe Joe Biden may be afraid to do it … he’s got to address it. He’s got to come out and talk about it,” he said.

Lemon’s comments came as violent protests are rising in Kenosha after Jacob Blake, a black man, was shot by a police officer. Lemon recommended that Biden address the issue like former President “Barack Obama did about race” and blame them on the Trump administration.
“He’s got to come out and tell people that he is going to deal with the issue of police reform in this country and that what’s happening now is happening on Donald Trump’s watch,” Lemon said.
The two hosts were discussing an NPR/PBS News Hour/Maris poll that showed 53 percent of respondents think demonstrations following the death of George Floyd are “mostly legitimate,” down from 62 percent in June. Only 28 percent of people thought the demonstrations were “people acting unlawfully” in June, that number rose to 38 percent.
Lemon said “the rioting has to stop” because they are starting to hurt Democrats in the polls.
“Chris, as you know and I know, it’s showing up in the polling. It’s showing up in focus groups. It is the only thing right now that is sticking,” he added.
Biden did not address law enforcement and violent protests during his acceptance speech at the Democrats National Convention, he eventually spoke out in a tweet on Wednesday.
“Is this the country we want to be?” Biden tweeted. “Needless violence won’t heal us. We need to end the violence—and peaceful come together to demand justice.”
The CNN cable news network on Wednesday faced ridicule over their reporting of “mostly peaceful protests” in Kenosha, reported The Blaze.
“This is what a Biden Presidency will bring to your city. Hats off to CNN for having the stamina to continue to carry water for democrats,” said Sen. Melissa Melendez (R-Calif).
