A group of conservative Republicans urged one of their party leaders to start stripping a Democrat of her House speaker duties.
The House Freedom caucus has asked House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to propose a resolution to relieve House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) of her responsibility as leader of the House.
Led by Rep. Steve Chabot (R-Ohio) and Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-Wash.), several representatives accused the Democrat of showing poor bipartisanship and cooperation with the Republican Party.
“Nancy Pelosi has eroded the institution of the House, allowing members 23 out of 435 members of the House to conduct official business through so-called proxy voting,” Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) said on Twitter. “She refuses to work with Republicans, blocking amendments, and often bypassing the committee process.”
Roy believes the speaker went overboard by behaving in a “partisan” manner and her “political grandstanding.”
“[She] even went so far as to [call] all Republicans as ‘enemies of the state,’” he said. “She must be removed as speaker so that the nation can start getting serious about doing the work of the American people.”
Roy revealed Pelosi had only allowed 19 days for business to be conducted in the House during the past six months.
“Think about that,” he said on Twitter. “Why aren’t we doing the work of the American people? She is holding America back.”
McCarthy believes Pelosi will need to leave one way or another and does not believe the resolution would necessarily be the best “move at the moment.”
“What I am in favor of is defeating Nancy Pelosi and [Jerry] Nadler and all the others,” he told Fox News’s “Ingraham Angle.” “If we were able to remove Nancy Pelosi you would have another Democrat. The real challenge would be we are four weeks away from [the] election, or 40-some days. These Democrats could actually vote against Nancy Pelosi, use it in their campaigns to say they are not with her, even though they vote with her 95 percent of the time because she does not need all of the votes to stay because of her majority.”
McCarthy encouraged every American who supports removing Pelosi to vote for the Republican Party at the upcoming election on Nov. 3.
“I think the best move is [to] win 218 seats and that defeats Nancy Pelosi,” he said. “[Do] you know who else that defeats? Nadler, [Maxine] Waters, Adam Schiff, and the others. That is our best play right now.”
