One of the Democratic Party’s top contenders for the presidency accidentally told his supporters to vote for the incumbent president on March 7.
Joe Biden surprised many of his supporters at his rally in Kansas City, Missouri, when he repeatedly misread his speech on a teleprompter.
“You want a nominee that will bring this party together, who will run a progressive, positive campaign, and turn this primary from a campaign that is about negative attacks into one about what we are for, because we cannot get re-elect[ed], we cannot win this re-election,” he said according to a video the Daily Wire uploaded to Twitter.
The candidate realized his error but continued to make more mistakes.
“Excuse me, we can only re-elect Donald Trump,” he said.
This string of errors caused many of his supporters to laugh at Biden’s mistakes.
President Donald Trump welcomed his rival’s unwitting endorsement to return to the Oval Office for another four years.
“I agree with Joe,” he said on Facebook.
Several social media users commented on the video, expressing their sympathy after Biden appeared to suffer a sudden memory lapse.
“Very sad for him and I feel sorry for his family that they are still making him continue [his election campaign,]” Margaret Rolling said on Facebook. “He does not know sometimes what he is saying or doing and [at] this age he needs to enjoy life and family [instead of the pressures of a busy election campaign.]”
The remarks came just days after Biden failed to recite part of the preamble to the Declaration of Independence during his Texas campaign speech.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident,” the candidate said on a video shared on Twitter. “All men and women are created, by the, you know, you know the thing.”
The former vice president especially raised eyebrows when he left out the word “equal” and then described the creator of the universe as the “thing.”
The correct version from the National Archives states: “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
The audience was later surprised to hear Biden finish up his request for volunteers, donations, and unconditional vote for Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas). The presidential candidate appeared to be confused about what day the presidential primary election would be held.
“[Join us,] sign up, volunteer, contribute if you can but we need you very badly,” he said on another video shared on Twitter. “Every vote matters tomorrow, most important vote to make sure is not going to be any problem is that you resend back Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) as the nominee without any question. Look, tomorrow is Super Thursday … Tuesday and I wanted to thank you all.”
Biden has previously made errors while delivering his speeches. Fox News caught the candidate telling supporters in South Carolina that he was standing for election for the “United States Senate.”
“You are ones who sent Barack Obama to presidency and I have a simple proposition here: I am here to ask you for your help,” he said in a video shared on Twitter. “My name is Joe Biden, I am a Democratic candidate for the United States Senate. Look me over, if you are likely to see me help out and vote. Give me a look though, okay? That is all I have really got to say here.”
