The newest House Republican received a hero’s welcome at a mass gathering organized by the president on Jan. 28.

People attending a Keep America Great rally in Wildwood, New Jersey, cheered and applauded Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-N.J.) as a “courageous leader” who is fed up with the Democratic Party’s attempts to impeach President Donald Trump.

“We are privileged to be joined tonight by a courageous leader who left the Democrat Party because he has had enough of their extremism, enough of their socialism, and enough of their vile hoaxes and scams,” the president said at the rally according to a Fox News video uploaded to Facebook. “I will tell you he really, he is a brave guy, he said, ‘I am not doing it, I am not doing it. It is a hoax, it is a scam, I am not doing it.'”

President Trump gave his endorsement for Van Drew and revealed he had wanted to poach the congressman to become the newest Republican member of the House for quite some time.

“Jeff was one of the few brave and principled Democrat lawmakers, in all fairness we have been after him for a long time, who stood up to the House Democrats and the outrageous abuse of power that you see going on right now,” the president said. “Jeff had the guts to the defy the leftwing fanatics and his own party, and to stand tall in defense of our Constitution, our freedom, [and] our democracy itself.”

He believes Van Drew’s values align with the Republican Party and does not doubt the congressman is the “right kind of guy” to stand for re-election at the general elections on Nov. 3.

“I have to tell you I have gotten to know him really well over the last couple of weeks, he is a great guy, he is a great guy, he shares our values,” the president said.

Van Drew intends to reverse his previous election policy for higher taxes and instead focus on lowering the tax rate, greater deregulation, and support for veterans and police officers in his district.

“[Democrats] want to raise your taxes, how did that work Jeff? How did you get elected with that one?” the president joked. “Less regulation, a strong national defense, he loves our military, loves our veterans and police, and he is a tireless champion for the state of New Jersey, [and] he loves your Second Amendment, which is under siege by the Democrats.”

President Trump predicted the impeachment trial would be defeated in the Senate.

“[Democrats] cannot win an election so they are trying to steal an election,” he said. “It is not happening folks, it is not happening.”
