A Democrat who likes to reminisce about his time as president is trying to convince Georgians to vote for the Democratic Party.
Barack Obama has made a last-minute pitch for the Peach State to consider supporting Democratic Senate candidates Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock at the runoff election on Jan. 5.
The former president urged Georgians to consider the election’s potential impact on the political and judicial systems, and donate at least $25 per person to help Ossoff and Warnock defeat Republican incumbent Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue.
“The fate of the Senate, the courts, and our progressive agenda are all on the line in Georgia,” he said in an email obtained by Newsmax.
Democrats believe winning those two seats would allow the party to expand its influence on the U.S. Senate, in which the GOP currently has a 52-seat majority.
If Ossoff and Warnock succeed, it would equally divide the floor and allow Kamala Harris to cast the tie-breaking vote and ultimately give Democrats control of both the House and Senate.
Obama believes the stakes “could not be higher” on Election Day.
“We are seeing how far some will go to retain power and threaten the fundamental principles of our democracy but our democracy is not about any individual, even a president—it is about you,” Obama said on Twitter.
He encouraged all Democrat supporters to do their part to win the runoff.
“If you are a Georgia voter, you can respond tomorrow with the most powerful tool we have as Americans—your vote,” he said. “Make a plan to vote in person or drop off your mail-in-ballot at a ballot drop box. Check-in with your family and friends to do the same.”
Loeffler vowed to keep fighting to overturn the November election result and help President Donald Trump win another four years in the Oval Office.
“Tens of millions of Americans have real concerns about the way in which the November presidential election was conducted—and I share their concerns,” she said in a statement. “That’s why, on January 6th, I will vote to give President Trump and the American people the fair hearing they deserve and support the objection to the Electoral College certification process.”
The senator has also introduced new rules to re-examine the integrity of the electoral system.
“I have also already introduced legislation to establish a commission to investigate election irregularities and recommend election integrity measures, which I will be working to get passed in the Senate,” she said. “We must restore trust, confidence, and integrity in our election system.”
Perdue promised to support more CCP (Chinese Communist Party) Virus stimulus packages, better marine infrastructure, and a stronger U.S. armed forces.
“From deepening the Port of Savannah, to rebuilding the military, to delivering COVID [CCP Virus] relief, I have been focused on getting results for all Georgians,” he said on Twitter.
