The Biden administration announced plans to re-enter the contested United Nations (U.N.) Human Rights Council. Former President Trump made the decision to withdraw the United States from the council in 2018 after questioning the council’s programs and its anti-Israel bias, further labeling it a grouping “not worthy of its name.”
Self-proclaimed guardians of human freedom China, Russia, Cuba, Eritrea, and Venezuela could soon have U.S. company on the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) if the Biden administration’s rush to rejoin the globalist body plays out successfully.
Should the move to rejoin the HRC materialize this week, it would imply a new move by President Joe Biden to reject any policies carried out by Trump and do the opposite.
Then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, when he withdrew the U.S. from the UNHRC, asserted that it is a “haven for dictators and the democracies that pander to them.”
“If the Council were serious about protecting human rights, there are plenty of legitimate needs for its attention, such as the systemic racial disparities in places like Cuba, China, and Iran,” he said.
U.S. chargé d’affaires in Geneva, Mark Cassayre, told an organizational meeting of the U.N.’s top human rights body that the United States will return shortly, Fox News reported.
Cassayre, the top U.S. diplomat in Geneva, said the most effective way to reform and improve the Geneva-based body was to “engage with it in a principled way.”
But in his speech he failed to consider the not insignificant detail that almost all the governments currently being denounced for their human rights abuses are actively involved in proposing policies within the U.N. council. Such is the case of the Chinese communist regime and the Venezuelan and Cuban dictatorships.
In short, the council is an organization in which the very violators of human rights are the ones in charge of ensuring the protection of human rights in the world, it is difficult to find something more contradictory and perverse. For this reason Trump decided to withdraw, and now Biden, who is known to share a common agenda with many of the dictators who are members of the council, intends to return and make the United States an accomplice to so many abuses around the world.
Former President Trump has been a great critic of all the associations with a globalist character that use attractive speeches linked to equal rights and opportunities, fighting injustice and hunger in the world, end up doing nothing to solve those problems and even increase them when they carry out their globalist and leftist policies.
Trump withdrew the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, the Iran nuclear deal, the World Health Organization (WHO), the UN education and culture organization, UNESCO, and several arms control treaties.
Since taking office last month, President Joe Biden has already rejoined both the Paris agreement and the WHO and has shown interest in returning to the Iran deal and UNESCO.
