With a full-fledged illegal immigration crisis escalating by the day at the country’s southern border, the Biden administration has chosen to pursue the same policies that Democrats once decried under the Trump administration.

According to the current government, putting “kids in cages,” which was deemed tragic and deplorable under former President Trump, is now the only “humane and moral” thing to do.

Reopening surge facilities for unaccompanied children

White House press secretary Jen Psaki acknowledged during a March 8 press briefing that the administration is dealing with the rapid influx of unaccompanied children crossing the US-Mexico border by reopening surge facilities dedicated to temporarily holding migrant children before they can be relocated to long-term facilities. However, she claims that this is “safe and humane.”

“We’ve made a policy decision as an administration that the humane and moral approach is to keep these kids safe and get them into facilities that are safe,” she said, “It is an area of policy discussion, how will we continue to accommodate, in a safe and humane way, these kids.”

“Our objective remains moving them as quickly as possible out of the Border Patrol facilities,” she continued. “[But] in order to do that, we need to have shelter facilities that are safe, that have access to educational resources, legal resources, health and medical resources, and we need to ensure that we have capacity to do that.”

According to a Fox News report, Biden set up a facility in South Texas for unaccompanied children entering the country illegally to wait there for a ruling from authorities.

“This is not kids being kept in cages. This is a facility that was opened that is going to follow the same standards as other HHS facilities. It is not a replication. Certainly not,” Psaki said at a Feb. 23 press conference.

However, Breitbart took it upon itself to contact a border official in South Texas to confirm the press secretary’s statements, and National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd, denied Psaki’s remarks.

No social distancing in facilities at the souther border

“Today, Jen Psaski said the administration could not hold the children in other locations due to the Covid protocols including social distancing,” Judd said, “but what she didn’t tell the media was that the children in [Border Patrol’s] custody were being held in conditions that have nearly no way to social distance.”

When Trump’s administration opened a surge facility in Carrizo Springs, Texas, for just one month in 2019, Democratic lawmakers and progressive immigration advocates chastised him. Frustrated by the attack, Trump pointed out that the so-called cages were designed by the Obama administration, which included Biden as vice president at the time.

An unprecedented number of refugees have raced to the southern border. The administration has been forced to use crisis mode measures, such as reopening migrant children housing facilities and buying plane tickets to transport migrant children to relatives’ homes in the United States, since it was clearly unable to tackle the influx.

Estimates show influx of unaccompanied children up 45%

According to the Department of Homeland Security, 117,000 unaccompanied illegal alien children will reach the United States this year, up 45% from the previous year.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott  (R) recently called the Texas National Guard to the border to assist with the crisis, believing the Biden administration is not up to the task.
