Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Friday, Aug. 21, swiped at President Donald Trump’s handling of the CCP Virus (coronavirus) pandemic, saying the country under his administration would be shut down to stop the virus if scientists recommended it.
In an interview with ABC News, fresh off of officially becoming Democratic presidential candidate, Biden criticized what he argued is the “fundamental flaw” of the Trump administration in response to the pandemic.
“I will be prepared to do whatever it takes to save lives because we cannot get the country moving until we control the virus,” Biden said.
“That is the fundamental flaw of this administration’s thinking to begin with” he added. The former vice president argued, “In order to keep the country running and moving and the economy growing, and people employed, you have to fix the virus, you have to deal with the virus.”
“I would shut it down, I would listen to the scientists,” he continued.
In his nomination acceptance speech on Thursday night, Biden named the CCP Virus pandemic as the first of four historic crises that the United States is facing, in addition to economic downturn, racial injustice, and a climate change threat. He promised to lead the country through the dark moments if elected president.
According to Fox News, the Trump administration decided to close businesses, schools, and churches earlier this year to control the virus pandemic, but the measure has had wide-reaching ramifications on the daily lives of Americans. Since then, President Trump has repeatedly urged state and local governments to ease the virus-related restrictions on schools, churches, and businesses to get the economy moving again.
Scientifically, the Trump administration has built the world’s best testing system to trace the virus, and has already conducted nearly 75 million tests, far outpacing any other country.
As soon as the virus cases began to rise, the president released guidance recommending mitigation measures critical to slowing the spread of the virus.
President Trump also revolutionized the clinical trial process to ensure Americans get a safe vaccine as quickly as possible, by providing unprecedented investments in leading vaccine candidates to simultaneously produce them as they are tested and developed. Multiple potential vaccines are already in or near the final stage of clinical trials.
