Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden during the first presidential debate on Tuesday night, Sept. 29, said that he doesn’t support the Green New Deal after defending it.

“The Green New Deal is not my plan,” Biden said. “The Green New Deal will pay for itself as we move forward. You’re not going to build plants that in fact are great polluting plants.”

“Do you support the Green New Deal?”  Fox News moderator Chris Wallace pressed Biden on the sweeping agenda, which calls for the United States to meet 100 percent renewable energy while creating millions of high-paying jobs.

“No, I don’t support the Green New Deal,” Biden responded.

President Donald Trump jumped in with, “Oh, you don’t? Well, that’s a big statement. That means you just lost the radical left. It’s gone.”

Biden continued, “I support the Biden plan that I put forward, which is different than what he calls the radical Green New Deal.”

However, Biden campaign website calls the Green New Deal a “crucial framework” to tackle the climate challenges.

Biden’s real-time flip-flop on the issue has deflated environmentalists on social media who champion the Green New Deal, reported the National File.

Ryan Knight, who runs the @ProudSocialist Twitter account, slammed the Democratic National Committee’s “failed election strategy” after the debate.

“Tonight’s debate exposed the DNC’s failed election strategy of taking progressive voters for granted to chase Republican voters because Trump solidified his base tonight while Biden was busy saying he doesn’t support Medicare for All or a Green New Deal.

Green Party presidential candidate Howie Hawkins said, “Biden makes clear he does not support the Green New Deal,” and, so, “The fossil fuel companies will continued to have a friend in the White House.”

Other Twitter users expressed concerns that Biden may have damaged his base by admitting to oppose The Green New Deal and defunding the police.

Meanwhile, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) who sponsored the House resolution, insisted, “This isn’t news.”
