The first presidential debate has seen former Vice President Joe Biden and President Trump sparing with each other, with the Democratic candidate claiming that President Trump is the worst president in U.S. history, and the incumbent fired back by claiming he has done more in 47 months than Biden did in 47 years.
During the debate on the economy on Tuesday night, Sept. 29, Biden said that his plan to revitalize the U.S. economy would be worker-focused and would include eliminating the tax cuts made by the Trump administration.
President Trump then raised a question, “Why didn’t you do it in the last 25 years?”
“Because you weren’t president screwing things up,” Biden replied. “You are the worst president that America’s ever had.”
In response, the president accused the former vice president of doing nothing while in office.
“Let me just tell you, Joe, in 47 months I’ve done more than you’ve done in 47 years,” President Trump said.
President Trump touted that his administration has rebuilt the military and reformed the Department of Veterans Affairs.
“We’ve done things you’ve never even thought of including fixing the broken military that you gave me,” President Trump said, referring to the Obama administration.
When the two debated on whether the economy should be shut down again due to the CCP Virus (coronavirus) pandemic, President Trump argued that the American people do not want the shutdown, while Biden said they want safety first.
“People want their schools open. They don’t want to be shut down. They don’t want their states shut down,” President Trump said. “I look at New York. It’s so sad what’s happening in New York. People want their places open.”
Biden countered, “People want to be safe.”
