A proud American citizen from Arizona challenged former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) on his stance on immigration and gun confiscation in Phoenix, Arizona, on Sunday evening, Oct. 6, as he spoke to supporters at a food court complex.
Jennifer Harrison, a proud American woman from AZ Patriots questioned O’Rourke for “pander[ing] a lot to illegal aliens,” calling it a “slap in the face” as he spoke about gun control, immigration, President Donald Trump, and other issues.
“I notice that you pander a lot to the illegal aliens and encouraging illegal immigration,” Harrison said as O’Rourke’s supporters booed in the background.
Unfazed, Harrison continued to voice her opinion as she raised concerns on O’Rourke’s far-left ideologies.
“We are a nation of laws, and I just think it’s a slap in the face to every legal immigrant who has waited and paid and played by the rules to immigrate to this country legally, and who have respected our country, our land, our citizens, our laws, and who have gone through the process to come here legally,” Harrison continued.
“To just say, ‘Everybody is welcome here, you all get free stuff and just come on over the border,’ is, again, a slap in the face to every legal immigrant like my mother who has come here legally,” she said.
“She had to go through a legal, orderly process. She had to wait her turn in line and play by the rules to get here,” Harrison reiterated on the importance of a legal arrival in the United States. “She respected our country and our laws; she assimilated. She learned the language and taught us [her children] to respect and love this country.”
Harrison thinks that it’s “a slap in the face to every immigrant who’s come here legally and waited,” and that “it takes time to become an American.”
“You don’t just cross the border and you’re afforded the rights of an American citizen,” she stressed.
Harrison told Fox News on Wednesday her views on Democrats in general on the issues of immigration and on keeping firearms.
“Democrats and liberals are ignorant when it comes to firearms, and they’re willing to trade their rights to the government for this false sense of security that if you ban a firearm, you’re going to save the life. They’re blaming the tool rather than the evil that’s behind it. You’re never going to be able to legislate evil,” Harrison said.
Harrison added that Democrats “don’t address what the mainstream voter is concerned about, that is people coming here illegally.”
In reference to O’Rourke’s statement endorsing a mandatory buyback of assault-style weapons during the Democrats’ third-round primary debate on Sept. 12, where he said, “Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15s, your AK-47.” Harrison was firm in rejecting these views as she warned the Democratic presidential candidate.
“Hands off our guns, Beto,” Harrison said. “You’re not getting our guns. The AR-15 is no more deadly than my Ruger .45.”
Harrison pointed out that Democrats tend to use emotional appeals to strategically divert attention away from difficult-to-answer questions in favor of drawing sympathy from supporters.
“I think most of the Democrats that are addressing the immigration issues deflect from the facts and what’s really happening,” she said. “They have these emotional responses to pander to their voters, their supporters—to revert back to kids in cages and things that are simply not true because they don’t’ want to answer the hard questions.”
