Adam Schiff from California, chairman of the Intelligence Committee fled when Republican legislators stormed a private meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 23, to demand transparency in the impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.

The 30-strong group led by Florida’s Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz first held a meeting in front of media cameras on Wednesday, calling on Democrats to be more transparent about attempts to impeach the president.

Gaetz said, “If behind those doors they intend to overturn the results of an American presidential election, we want to know what’s going on.”

Schiff is reported to have left as Republicans started marching in and held off until the lawmakers left the area.

“He doesn’t have the guts to come talk to us. He left. He just got up and left. He doesn’t have the guts to tell us why we can’t come in the room, why he doesn’t want this to be transparent,” Rep. Roger Marshall of Kansas said. “It’s the biggest facade, the biggest farce I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Rep. Ron Wright of Texas complained, “Instead of a conversation, Adam Schiff abruptly ended the deposition, taking the witness along with him. “

Rep. Bill Johnson of Ohio also said, “Once we gained entry, instead of answering our questions about why we’ve been refused access, Adam Schiff up and left.”

Rep. Andy Biggs said, “When Republican members were in the SCIF, Chairman Schiff immediately left with the witness.

Earlier, Rep. Matt Gaetz spoke, “Whether you like Trump or dislike Trump, everyone in America should be against a system where people are trying to overturn the results of a presidential contest in the basement of the Capitol underground with secrecy and selective leaks.”

Meanwhile, actor Clint Eastwood expressed his support for the GOP lawmakers, saying “Great to see members of House GOP. Storming into ILLEGAL impeachment hall of Rep Adam Schiff & Jerry Nadler.”
