Nearly two dozen House GOP lawmakers, led by Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), have introduced a measure to censure President Joe Biden over his lack of action in handling the immigration crisis at the southern border.
“I am leading the charge to censure Joe Biden for his complete dereliction of duty on our nation’s border crisis,” Boebert wrote in a tweet on Wednesday, June 23.
“If you won’t protect your nation, you are neglecting your sworn oath to protect and defend said nation,” she added.
In a statement reported by the Washington Times, Boebert said that “Biden has refused to enforce the laws securing our border, he has refused to visit our border, his border czar Kamala has refused to visit the border, and his Secretary of Homeland Security is lying to the American people by saying that our border is closed.”
The Times reported that 22 other House Republicans joined Boebert in the resolution to decry the surge of migrants at the border, including a record 180,000 in May and the spike in arrests of suspected drug smugglers, murderers, and sex offenders.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Boebert said that her censure resolution would hold President Biden accountable for his lack of actions at the border.
The Colorado lawmaker claimed that Biden had completely failed to secure the southern border, saying that the border crisis is a humanitarian crisis that started when the Biden regime began rolling back former President Donald Trump’s firm and effective border policies.
“The result of Biden’s mismanagement is staggering,” the congresswoman said, pointing out that the number of unaccompanied minors in custody under the Biden administration has surged to 22,000 from 1,400 children under Trump’s era.
In Trump’s last month of office, border patrol released just 18 illegal immigrants with notices into the communities across the country, but last month alone, Biden released over 26,000 illegal immigrants, giving them free bus rides and plane tickets.
“Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and this entire regime are endangering the American people,” Boebert said. “I can’t think of a more inhumane policy approach to our southern border than to incentivize children to be used as pawns by the cartel. That’s exactly what’s happening and Biden’s policies are assisting and enriching the cartel.”
Boebert also criticized Vice President Kamala Harris, who was tapped as Biden’s point-person on border security but has not visited the border, saying, “this administration has not lifted a finger to end this crisis and secure our southern border.”
Joining Boebert on the resolution are included Reps. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.), Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), Lance Gooden (R-Texas), Diana Harshbarger (R-Tenn), and others.
Rep. Biggs called the Biden administration a “complete disaster,” pointing to one million illegal border crossings so far this year.
“President Biden and Vice President Harris have sent an unequivocal message that they prefer illegal immigrants over Americans. Their radical agenda has erased our southern border,” Biggs said.
“Americans suffer from the Biden policy which has encouraged more than one million illegal border crossings this year which has produced increased human, sex, and drug trafficking. The American people condemn the Biden Administration’s dereliction of duty,” the Arizona lawmaker said.
