Former President Trump warned authorities to choose carefully between an activist movement or extreme tyranny.
Donald Trump expressed solidarity with the Freedom Convoy trucker movement at the 2022 Conservative Political Action Conference. He also urged political leaders to be on the right side of history.
“A line has been crossed: you are either with the peaceful truckers, or you are with the left-wing fascists—that is what has been happening,” he said in a video shared on YouTube.
“We stand with the truckers and we stand with the Canadian people in their noble quest to reclaim their freedom,” he added.
Trump questioned Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s crackdown against the group’s conscientious objection to vaccine mandates across the country’s transport industry.
“The tyranny we have witnessed in Canada in recent weeks should shock and dismay people all over the world,” he said. “In an advanced Western democracy, the peaceful movement of patriotic truckers, workers, and families protesting for their most basic rights and liberties has been violently put down.”
The former president felt sympathy for those whose lives were turned upside down due to the pandemic.
“Their assets and life savings have been frozen [and] they have been slandered as Nazis, racists and terrorists—these are the names they have been called,” he said. “They have been arrested and charged with phony crimes. They have been falsely accused of loyalty to foreign powers.”
Trump described the activists as concerned citizens who love their country.
“They are [still] being hunted down like enemies of their own government and treated worse than drug dealers, murderers or rapists,” he said.
Trump vowed to fight what he calls a “radical and power-hungry ruling class” all the way to U.S. polling stations.
“[We want] to deliver them an electoral defeat so resounding that they are exiled into political oblivion, never ever to return again,” he said.
