Erin Hester was sitting at a stoplight when she saw the beginnings of a funeral procession drive by. Car after car passed through the opposite lane, and yet the car in front of her was parked at a complete stop.

At first she was confused, then she saw a something that made her smile from ear to ear.

Now Erin is sharing what she saw in hopes that it will inspire others to follow suit and show honor as this compassionate man did.

In an emotional post, Erin told the Love What Matters Facebook page exactly what she saw that day.

“I was so completely touched by this today. A funeral procession was passing by and this soldier got out of his jeep to stand at attention in the pouring rain.”

“I always get frustrated when I see cars that don’t pull to the side and stop for a procession, but this gentlemen went above and beyond. I feel pretty confident that there isn’t a military rule that soldiers have to do this.

This made my heart happy to see the amount of respect that this gentleman showed a family that he doesn’t even know.”

This soldier didn’t have to honor the fallen in the pouring rain, but he went out of his way to show respect! We need more people like him in the world – it would be a much kinder place.

In a day where it can feel like traditions we’ve recognized for decades are slipping away, this proves there are still people that set an example of what it means to show honor. It touched this woman’s hearts along with the rest of us. Thank you!
