Extraordinary Circumstances

Childbirth can be a beautiful miracle, but it is also painful, messy, and more than a little terrifying under regular circumstances. For Texas woman Jennifer Medlock, she had a bit more to stress about: her son Ali James Medlock tipped the hospital scales at 14 lbs 13 oz at birth, almost twice the normal size for newborns.

A Tiny Giant

Yes. Nearly 15 pounds. Every woman reading this just instinctively crossed her legs.

The Arlington doctors told Jennifer and her husband Eric that Ali was the biggest baby that they’d ever delivered. Ali was born via C-section and stayed in neonatal intensive care for a week after his birth due to complications, including rapid breathing, and low blood sugar and platelets.

Onward And Upward

Jennifer told reporters that Ali is “meant for something big.”

“Maybe not football,” she joked. “Everyone keeps saying that.”

Family Overcame The Odds

CBS News reports that Jennifer has Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and was told that having kids would be a “long shot” for her and her husband. “I love proving people wrong,” she says.

Big Family, Big Dreams

Their daughter, Annabelle, was born through the help of fertility treatments. Annabelle weighed 9 pounds, 10 ounces at birth, so big babies runs in their family.

Infant Already Toddler-Sized

“We heard an ‘oh my’ behind the curtain, and I was like ‘oh my what?” says Jennifer. But size doesn’t matter here. “It doesn’t matter how big he is; I’m so blessed to have him,” she says.

Topping The Scales

KRDO writes that Ali broke the record at Arlington Medical Hospital in Arlington, Texas for being the biggest baby born there, according to records.

We’re Gonna Need A Bigger Onesie

One of the first orders of business in that household may be to get the larger-size diapers for Ali; the newborn size probably won’t fit him. And he’ll most certainly need a whole set of larger-sized baby clothes. Hopefully they have their store receipts!
