It has been a month since the deadly Camp Fire burned through California. The most destructive wildfire that the region has ever witnessed has wreaked havoc in the state, burning down houses, separating families and pets.
Despite these tragic times, people still managed to find hope among all the loss. After the wildfire swept through and destroyed Courtney Werblow’s family home in Paradise, California, she and her loved ones found hope in the form of their beloved cat, Timber.
“My husband, two children and I lost our home in this fire as well as my entire small business. My parents also lost their home that they lived in,” Courtney wrote online. “After so much loss, this is a testimony of endurance, strength, and love.”
The cat had disappeared shortly before the flames forced the family to flee — probably sensing that something was going to happen — and they had spent the last month fearing the worst.
On December 8, Courtney and her parents received an escort to where her parents’ property once stood to see what, if anything, could be salvaged. There, they saw a familiar and quite beloved face emerging from the ashes.
Timber had survived the fire.
The cat seemed incredulous at first — she couldn’t believe that she had finally been found by her loved ones. After the initial shock, the cat came running to her owner. “You made it!” Courtney said, emotion thick in her voice.
Miraculously, Timber was unscathed after surviving her ordeal. And now, she is finally where she belongs — surrounded by her family’s love.
“After so much loss, this is a testimony of endurance, strength, and love,” Courtney said. “She is an amazing family cat and we are so happy to have her back into our arms.”
The Werblows are not the only family that has gone through these hardships. Although the road to recovery is still very long, these are the moments that make it all bearable.
It is important to never lose hope, especially in the face of adversities. “Never lose hope!” Courtney concluded.
