Parents usually teach their kids how to react in threatening-life situations. Still, facing these frightening situations in real life is the last thing parents expect their beloved kids to meet.
The Wrights’ two older children, showing cleverness and bravery, rescued their youngest brother, a toddler, from a kidnapper, surprising their parents, and of course, other parents.
Brenden (10), Delicia (8), and Owen (22 months old) were playing in the park near their babysitter’s house. They were enjoying their play and unaware they were being watched by a stranger with a sinister plan.
Without warning, the stranger suddenly showed up and abruptly snatched Owen and instantly ran off with him at high speed, leaving the two other children in shock, as Shareably reported.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Delicia and Brenden immediately jumped into action in response.
Delicia rushed after the kidnapper at fast as she could, screaming for help, followed by her brother Brenden with the stroller.
Delicia’s attempt finally paid off when a teenager nearby realized her scream as a desperate asking for help. He said: “It really turned into blood-curdling screaming.”
The other teenager noticed something unusual was going on, “When you kind of pick up there’s a girl running behind him, he’s running down an alleyway with a kid—things don’t look right.”
A 911 call was made during the chase.
Delicia’s high-pitched shrieks finally forced the kidnapper to have second thoughts when he realized that so many people were paying attention to the action.
Fearing to be caught, he ended up abandoning the toddler in a vacant lot before making his escape.
Thanks to his intelligent and brave siblings, Owen survived safe and sound.
Personal safety expert Kathleen Baty has complemented the acts of Delicia and Brenden. She even advised parents to take the case as an excellent example to instruct their children.
“Using your voice. Using your words. Screaming, yelling, ‘Help!’ ‘Stranger danger!’ ‘This is not my father!’ Can be the real difference between life and death. Instilling your kids that when they are out in public that if some adult comes up to them they need to have that gut reaction and go the other way and yell and scream as loud as they can.”
It’s amazing how intelligent and brave children can be in threatening situations.
More importantly, their act demonstrates the love that siblings and family members have for one another, as they ran into danger to save their brother without a moment of hesitation.
