A couple from Conroe, Texas, is praising a state trooper who originally pulled them over for a traffic stop and ended up praying with them.
Lanell McGee James said that she and her husband, Mar James, were traveling to Dallas on Sunday, Dec. 15, going through Madisonville when a state trooper pulled them over for a non-speeding violation.
James said Trooper Bates asked them where they were headed, and she told him to Dallas because there was a death in the family. James told the trooper her husband’s brother had died.
“He said, ‘Oh, I’m sorry to hear that, do you know where he is?'” James said. “My husband answered ‘Yes, at the morgue,’ and the officer responded, ‘No, he is now in his heavenly home.'”
James said she and her husband were both moved to tears because the death of his younger brother was very unexpected.
To the couple’s surprise, Trooper Bates then asked if he could pray with them.
“He removed his hat, asked to hold our hands and he prayed with us. I have NEVER had this happen before but it was everything that we needed at that moment. Thank you so much, Trooper Bates, for praying with us!” James wrote on her Facebook post.
