Guinness World Record’s oldest living married couple celebrated 80 years of marriage on Dec. 11 in Austin, Texas.

To celebrate their 80th year together, John Henderson, 106, picked up Charlotte Curtis, 105, in a 1920s Roadster—much like he did on their first date—with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

The couple’s retirement home threw the pair an anniversary party last Thursday. Friends and family also gathered together to celebrate the couple with food and a slideshow filled with photos of the couple over the years.

The couple officially marked 80 years of marriage on Sunday, Dec. 15.

They originally met in a class at the University of Texas, Austin, in 1934. John said he fell in love with Charlotte the first time he caught her smile, and then asked her for a date.

Five years later, they got married and credits their long married life to being kind to each other.

“Don’t indicate to your partner that you’re going to be the leader or you’re going to have it your way,” said John to Fox 61 in a November interview. “You have to give and take as life goes by, and be grateful for what you have, and try to make tomorrow a better day than today, and be sure you don’t go to bed at night with a chip on your shoulder. Be aware of the other person’s feelings.”

The couple never had children, and some people said that’s the reason they had such a long married life, as they didn’t have children to worry about.

Whatever the reasons are, John and Charlotte are now still very healthy and enjoy spending time together and planning for the future.

“We like watching sports and talking about what we’re going to do tomorrow,” he told TODAY.

Happy 80th anniversary!
